More than bums on seats: Australian Participation in the arts

Do you think arts are elitist or only for baby boomers? Think again. According to a new survey, 9 in 10 Australians participate in the arts, and 4 in 10 Australians create art themselves. More than bums on seats: Australian participation in the arts is a new research from the Australia Council for the Arts. This video is about what art participation means in real terms, and paints a picture of Australians and the art in 21st century. More information and a full report is available on the Australia council for the arts website: www.australiacouncil.gov.au/participation Music credits: Track title: FBI, Composer: Yuri Sazonoff (SOCAN), Publisher: Yuri Sazonoff (SOCAN). 1. @march1600 – continued from the previous comment – This was made possible through the use of specific formulas and selection criteria to ensure that the sample represents a cross-section of the population. The Arts participation study used state, gender and age demographics to measure against.

The margin of error in our study with a sample of 3,000 is only plus or minus 1.75%, and statistic formulas ensure it’s accurate in 95% of cases.

We hope the explanation is helpful!

  2. @march1600 A sample of 3,000 respondents has been used in a number of past surveys of this nature. For example, the Australian Bureau of Statistics used a sample of 3,200 adults to conduct the survey “Use of the Internet by Householders” , and OzTam uses a sample of 3,035 households to project its national viewing numbers. Each of these studies drew conclusions about the general population based on their results. – CONTINUED IN 2ND COMMENT

  3. 3000?! How can that be considered representative?

  4. “Australia has more people creating arts than New Zealand HAS people”.

Incredible. Gotta love a bit of numerical superiority! Except …

Even if just 10% of China’s population make art, that still equals 130 MILLION PEOPLE. This would mean that China has over six times more people creating art than Australia HAS people.

And who knows WHAT that means.
